As a result of the plundering and destruction of the Palatine in the late 17th and early 18th centuries, many of the villages in the region were entirely depopulated. To address this, many groups were invited to come in from Switzerland and France and resettle the land. Below is a list of Bentz's from Switzerland who resettled in the Palatinate in the 18th century. 1
Tobias Bentz – From: Altstetten (ZH) To: Mutterstadt (Rhineland-Palatinate). Married 1726.
Anna Maria Bentz – From: Andelfingen (ZH) To: Mutterstadt (Rhineland-Palatinate). Married in 1730.
Melchior Bentz – From: Alten (ZH) To: Mutterstadt (Rhineland-Palatinate). Married 1727.
Hans Adam Bentz – From: Lutzelfluh (BE) To: Hassloch (Rhineland-Palatinate). Married 1707.
Feliz Bentz – From: Riedt (ZH) To: (Rhineland-Palatinate). Confirmation 1714.
Adam Bintz – From: Stammheim (ZH) To: Speyerdorf (Reinland-Pfalz). Married 1736.
There is also an Anna Mayer from Alten (ZH) who moved to Mutterstadt. She is married to a Heinrich Bentz. She dies and is buried there in Mutterstadt in 1735. Her father is noted at Mathias Mayer. It is not clear who this Heinrich Bentz is.
